Irish Breakfast

What is a proper Irish breakfast?

A traditional Irish breakfast, often known as an "Irish fry," is a hearty and iconic morning meal beloved in Ireland and beyond. This flavorful feast typically includes crispy bacon, sausages, black and white pudding (sausage-like blood and oatmeal delicacies), fried eggs, grilled tomatoes, sautéed mushrooms, and brown soda bread. It's a satisfying medley of flavors, offering a savory start to the day. When visiting Ireland, don't miss the chance to savor this beloved culinary tradition that's both a cultural experience and a delicious meal.

If you happen to start your day a bit later, we still recommend grabbing a bite to eat!

Temple Bar District

Our first stop is the lively Temple Bar District. Roam through cobblestone streets, discover quirky shops, and soak in the vibrant atmosphere!

Dive into Irish culture with a “pint of the black stuff” (Guinness) at The Palace Bar or The Brazen Head, two very legendary Irish pubs.

Christ Church Cathedral

Don't miss the Christ Church Cathedral- it's a true architectural gem. A self-guided tour is included with the entrance fee. Most people tend to spend a hour here but take as much or as little time as you want.

Ha’Penny Bridge

Then, wander over to the iconic Ha'Penny Bridge and explore Moore Street Market, a bustling hub of local flavors. A great time to grab dinner nearby as well.

Evening

As the evening unfolds, enjoy live music and more craic at Buskers or step into the world of speakeasies at Vintage Cocktail Club. If you are tired from a day of travel, just head back for some rest and prepare for your adventure tomorrow!

Day 2: Day trip from Dublin:  A Scenic Day Trip to the Cliffs of Moher and Galway

Get ready for an exciting day trip to the Cliffs of Moher!  It's crucial to book your tour in advance to secure your spot as this is VERY popular. We loved our guided tour and highly recommend this one-We were driven to The Cliffs of Moher in a comfortable bus filled with fun knowledgeable guides and even had ample time to explore Galway. It’s a long day across Ireland filled with scenic views but the day does start early. Grab some coffee and local Irish snacks prior to your departure. We preferred being driven around versus attempting to DIY the trip. It was absolutely worth it!

Cliffs of Moher

The Cliffs of Moher, are an awe-inspiring natural wonder on Ireland's west coast and showcase breathtaking views that will fill you with joy! Marvel at the sheer rugged beauty of these towering cliffs, rising up to 700 feet above the wild Atlantic Ocean. Don't miss the panoramic vistas from O'Brien's Tower, a historic viewing point. Walking Tour of Dublin’s History

Immerse yourself in Dublin's history and culture on a free walking tour that starts at The Spire. This leisurely 3-hour tour by Civitas provides unique insights into the city. Your tour guide will share captivating stories, local insights, and provide a well-rounded understanding of the city's social, political, and cultural history. Then at the end, you pay what you want. We absolutely love walking tours because it really is the best way to bring the historical pulse of a city to life. We actually took a couple of tours since we were enchanted by the rich Irish history and Dublin culture.

We know that free walking tours may not always fit your schedule. Paid tours offer more flexibility and can be more customizable depending on group size and usually make for a more intimate tour.  Popular ones include- the Dublin Historical Walking Tour-2 hours and Dublin Walking Tour.

Pick your favorite! Whatever you choose, we highly recommend at least one walking tour to understand the rich Irish history around you.

Guinness Storehouse

In the afternoon, embark on a fascinating journey at the Guinness Storehouse! We suggest booking a tour after 3 p.m. to make the most of your visit and catch the evening views from the Gravity Bar. Be sure to book in advance for what works best for you!

Guinness, often referred to as the "Black Stuff," is an iconic Irish stout that's much more than just a beverage. This legendary brew is synonymous with Ireland's rich cultural heritage and has been brewed in the heart of Dublin since 1759.

Modifications/Tips:

Visiting Dublin offers a delightful blend of enchanting landscapes, rich culture, and warm hospitality. For the first time, we highly recommend at least 3 days to preview Dublin’s offerings and take a day trip. However if possible we recommend 4 days to really take in the culture and travel leisurely. Of course, if time allows you can spend even more hours in Dublin or join a few other areas in Ireland for the perfect Irish getaway! Let us know what you are thinking below.

To make the most of your Irish adventure, consider these tips and modifications:

  • Layered Clothing: Ireland's weather can be unpredictable, so pack layers. Even in summer, bring a light jacket and waterproof gear. Especially on your day trip to the Cliffs of Moher be prepared to enjoy your trek.

  • Currency and Tipping: Ireland uses the Euro (€). Tipping is customary, typically 10% -15% in restaurants and for services. While cards are widely accepted, some rural areas may prefer cash, so carry some Euros.

  • Driving on the Left: If you plan to drive, remember that Ireland drives on the left side of the road. Take extra caution! We personally prefer to use public transport and walk everywhere and not stress about driving abroad.

  • Public Transport: Ireland has an excellent public transportation network. Consider using buses and trains for ease of travel.

  • Language: English is widely spoken, but Irish (Gaelic) is the official language.  In all tourist areas, English is fairly common.

  • Adapters: Ireland uses the Type G plug. Bring adapters if your devices have different plugs.

  • Reservations: Book accommodations and popular tours in advance, especially during peak tourist seasons.

  • Local Cuisine: Try traditional dishes like Irish stew, boxty, and seafood chowder. Sample a pint of Guinness or local craft beers.  We have no difficulties finding delicious vegetarian food here! Don't miss traditional Irish pubs for music and food!

  • Safety: Ireland is generally safe for tourists, but like anywhere, exercise common-sense precautions with your belongings.

With this carefully crafted itinerary, you'll experience the very best of Dublin's culture, history, and natural beauty. So, embrace the friendly spirit of Dublin, relish its delectable cuisine, and immerse yourself in the warmth of the locals. Sláinte (Cheers) to an unforgettable Dublin adventure!
