Day 1: Arrival and Vancouver Exploration

Getting to the hotel

Start your journey by taking the Canada Line from the airport to Yaletown-Roundhouse Station—a quick and efficient 45-minute ride that offers you a glimpse of Vancouver’s urban vibe. Alternatively, if you prefer more convenience, a ride share to your hotel.

Explore Vancouver

Canada Place

Your adventure kicks off at Canada Place, a striking waterfront landmark that serves as the gateway to Vancouver. The grand white sails of the building are iconic, and the stunning views of the harbor and mountains will immediately captivate you. Spend some time strolling along the waterfront and soaking in the fresh air. There are always cool events here like yoga next to the water or festivals, be sure to check it out!

Gastown

A short walk from Canada Place, Gastown is Vancouver’s historic heart, known for its cobbled streets, independent boutiques, and trendy cafés. Don’t forget to stop by the Steam Clock—this quirky, steam-powered clock chimes every 15 minutes and has become one of the most photographed spots in the city.

Robson Street

After exploring Gastown, head to Robson Street, Vancouver’s bustling shopping district, where you’ll find everything from high-end retailers to local gems.  Be sure to stop by at the public library (it looks like the Coliseum) and has great views from the rooftop!

Vancouver's Seawall

This is the world’s longest uninterrupted waterfront path, offering stunning views of the ocean, mountains, and city skyline. Stretching 28 kilometers, it’s perfect for walking, biking, or rollerblading, with highlights like Stanley Park, Siwash Rock, and the Lions Gate Bridge. The Seawall is a must-see for anyone looking to enjoy Vancouver’s natural beauty and scenic waterfront. You will see many parts of it as you explore, but can also choose to bike it if you wish!  Spend a couple hours to half a day exploring this area!

Early Dinner

Treat yourself to a reservation at Nightingale, a trendy restaurant offering modern Canadian fare & classic cocktails. This spot is known for its vibrant atmosphere and beautifully plated dishes that make for a memorable dining experience.

Evening

Walking Tour of Vancouver

For an in-depth exploration of Vancouver's history, join a Free Walking Tour with Toonie Tours, departing from the Canada Place Welcome Center. We love free walking tours because they’re led by locals who are passionate about their city, and at the end, you pay what you feel the tour is worth. This tour takes you through some of the city's most iconic areas, from the historic lanes of Gastown to Granville Street, where modern shops blend with old-world charm. It's a perfect introduction to Vancouver's unique mix of cultures and architecture.

Is Vancouver a Walkable City?
Yes! Vancouver is one of the most walkable cities in Canada, especially around downtown where the attractions are close together. Many visitors explore on foot, and Vancouver’s public transportation system also makes it easy to get around without a car.

Day 2: Grouse Mountain and Granville Island

Breakfast/Brunch

We decide to check out the new Wa-Bagel by Aburi, Japanese-style bagels for some delicious flavors such as matcha cheesecake and mochi matcha. It was so good!

Once you are fueled up for the day, get ready for a day of adventure!

Grouse Mountain

Catch the Free Grouse Mountain Shuttle near Canada Place to journey to this iconic mountain peak, just a short drive from downtown Vancouver. We recommend reservations ahead of time online, though you can buy tickets at the place too though may be limited.

Known as the "Peak of Vancouver," Grouse Mountain offers panoramic views that are simply breathtaking.

Start with a ride on the Skyride Gondola, which will lift you over the lush forest below, offering a bird’s-eye view of the city and mountains. Once you reach the top, take a moment to explore the Grizzly Bear Habitat, home to two rescued grizzly bears, Grinder and Cola.

Be sure to watch the Lumberjack Show, an entertaining demonstration of lumberjack skills that’s fun for all ages. If you’re feeling adventurous, hike up Mother Nature’s Staircase, a steep but rewarding 2.5-hour trek that takes you through the forest to the mountaintop.

Alternatively, you can relax and take in the views from the top, or check out the Ranger talks to learn more about the region’s wildlife.

Most people easily spend 2.5 hours here exploring but you can spend as much or as little time as you want!

You can buy your ticket here or on the official site/in person.

You might be wondering if Vancouver is Easy to Get Around Without a Car?

Absolutely! Vancouver has excellent public transportation, and the Grouse Mountain shuttle makes it easy to reach this attraction without a car. Biking and walking are great options for exploring the city, and taxis or rideshare services like Uber are widely available. We did not rent a car and found it very easy to get around.

Granville Island

After your mountain adventure, head to Granville Island for good food and unwinding. This is a vibrant public market located on a small peninsula under the Granville Street Bridge. You can take a ferry here too! This local gem is brimming with artisan shops, food vendors, and stunning waterfront views.

Visit Lee’s Donuts for a sweet treat or sample fresh seafood from The Lobster Man. Don’t miss the Granville Island Brewing for a refreshing local beer, or Liberty Distillery if you prefer craft spirits.

Wander through the cute shops and local galleries, and enjoy the laid-back atmosphere that makes Granville Island so beloved by locals and tourists alike.

Day 3: Day Trip: Whistler & Sea to Sky Gondola Tour

We have a fun day trip planned for you! We took a guided tour for Whistler and Sea to Sky Gondola and that was just AMAZING and we highly recommend it!

We were driven on the Sea to Sky Highway, a drive that offers some of the most stunning scenery in the region.

As we ascended to Whistler, we enjoyed views of Howe Sound, the Shannon Falls, and rugged mountainsides.

We loved hiking at Shannon Falls for some refreshing views and taking the amazing Sea to Sky Gondola Ride for gorgeous views.

Once in Whistler, we were given time to explore the area on our own.

We recommend walking around Whistler Village, a pedestrian-only area filled with boutique shops, cafes, and restaurants. While we went in August, the energy of the place was infectious surrounded by beautiful mountains.

Whistler has a unique vibe, partly due to the many Australians who work and live here. Be sure to stop by one of the Australian cafés to enjoy a flat white or Vegemite toast, a little piece of Australia in the heart of the Canadian mountains! We decided to check out Peaked Pies for luch, a cafe specializing in meat/vegetarian pies and was pretty delicious!

If you’re feeling active, take a gondola ride up Whistler Mountain for even more stunning views. In the summer, mountain biking is a popular sport that you can both watch or take part in!

Day 4: Capilano Suspension Bridge & Stanley Park

Capilano Suspension Bridge Park

Start your final day with a visit to the Capilano Suspension Bridge Park, one of Vancouver’s most famous natural landmarks. The Capilano Suspension Bridge stretches 137 meters across a deep canyon, offering dramatic views of the surrounding forest. It’s a fun cross for all ages! I don’t think we quite appreciated how much it sways and is definitely a thrilling experience.

Spend some time walking through the Treetops Adventure, where you can cross seven smaller suspension bridges that wind through the canopy of ancient cedar trees. Once you cross the big one, this should be a breeze!!

Another cool experience is the Cliffwalk, a walkway that clings to the side of a cliff, with some great views!

Most people spend a few hours here, 2-3 hours. You can grab some poutine or coffee up here too!

If you prefer a more guided tour check out The Vancouver City Sightseeing Tour: Capilano Suspension Bridge & Vancouver Lookout.

Lunch

Return to Vancouver’s downtown and enjoy lunch at one of the city’s many diverse restaurants. Known for Japanese food, Vancouver has some great sushi! Our favorite place was Tom Sushi where there is a delicious extensive menu with tons of vegetarian options. They even serve you green tea to get started! It was absolutely delicious and we highly recommend it!

Stanley Park

Now, head over to Stanley Park, Vancouver’s crown jewel. This 1,000-acre urban park offers a wealth of activities for nature lovers, from peaceful walks to more adventurous bike rides.

Take a stroll through Brockton Point to see the world-famous Totem Poles or head to Prospect Point for stunning views of the Lions Gate Bridge and the North Shore mountains.

Choose to rent a bike and cycle along the Seawall Promenade, the world’s longest uninterrupted waterfront path, offering views of the city, mountains, and ocean.

How Long to Spend in Stanley Park?
Plan at least 2-3 hours to explore Stanley Park, whether you're cycling along the Seawall or visiting its beautiful gardens and beaches. If you're short on time, don’t miss the Totem Poles and Prospect Point for stunning views! You can easily spend a full day if you have the luxury of time.

Evening

End your day by relaxing at Second Beach or Third Bay, both of which are serene spots to reflect on your adventures and catch a sunset!

If time permits, don’t miss the 9 O'Clock Gun, a Vancouver tradition where a cannon is fired from the park every evening, signaling the end of another perfect day in this beautiful city.

For a fun activity on your last day, consider the Vancouver Panorama Classic Seaplane Tour!

Final Thoughts

Is Vancouver Too Expensive?
Vancouver can be expensive in terms of accommodation, but many of its outdoor activities (like visiting Stanley Park or biking the Seawall) are free or affordable. With a bit of planning, you can have a fantastic and budget-friendly trip.

Is It Safe to Walk Downtown Vancouver at Night?
Yes, Vancouver is generally a safe city, and areas like downtown and Stanley Park are well-lit and popular with locals and tourists alike during the evening.

Whether you’re hiking up Grouse Mountain, strolling through Stanley Park, or exploring the charming streets of Whistler, Vancouver is sure to leave a lasting impression. It was a great weekend getaway for us and we cannot wait to go back! Thank you for reading!
